When you have completed the questionnaire, take a moment to look at it. Where are the trouble spots? What can you do about them?
Awareness that there is a problem is the first step towards change. If we lack tools and know-how of fixing ourselves, we normally do more of what we already do, get frustrated, and then give up. Problems don’t go away on their own.
In not dealing with something, we make believe that the problem goes away. In all actuality, the problem persists by us guarding against getting hurt like that again. If you tend to get upset by the actions of others on a regular basis, it is time to do some inner work.
We often hear that “If they do something different, I will feel better.” Well, think again. The real issue is not them changing, but you changing. Have they ever fixed you? Or, has anybody ever fixed you? The real issue is you fixing you.
After twenty-six years in practice and a few books under my belt, it is exciting for me to present the real tools to people that help them change themselves – for the long haul. It is a process to work through the problem areas in life. The quick fix is what this nation wants, but does it do the trick? Or, are you facing the same problems over and over again?
I love presenting to people Spiritual Psychology because it utilizes a minimum of 10 psychological approaches, addressing a problem physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. When all these areas are addressed, a more lasting solution is discovered. According to Spiritual Psychology, our problems become our greatest teachers. In addressing the reoccurring problems that you’ve probably faced your whole life, there is a reason it keeps cycling around over and over again. If you don’t address it properly, it will only get stronger, until you finally deal with it in the proper way. What is this proper way? Now that is the real question.
Since nobody really taught us how to address our problems on especially the emotional levels, they continue to fester. If you suffer from panic attacks, out of control substance use, or fits of rage, it is the first indicator that you have an unresolved wound that needs to be addressed. Medication will help stabilize you, but don’t you want to pull the thorn out of your body once and for all?
The above questionnaire is a good indicator of how you are doing overall. If you are doing great, keep up the great work. If not, there are a few things you need to consider. First of all, be mindful of what you are putting into your body. Reduce and eliminate substances if you are doing poorly. This only complicates the healing process. Next focus on your thinking. Focus on the best thing that can happen instead of the worst. Exchange negative thoughts with positive thoughts. Emotionally, reduce or avoid toxic people. Are these people someone you would choose to spend an entire day with? If not, there is no obligation to hang out with them. Choose who you want to be with. Also, become your own best friend by being gentle on yourself. Catch yourself doing something right and praise yourself for your actions. Lastly, meditation and prayer are encouraged. Why not let the God of your understanding lend a hand (if hand is the word).
